When you enter the winding drive leading to the Stone Cottage of Lake Lure, it’s like walking into a Thomas Kinkade painting of Hansel and Gretel’s fairy tale cottage. Hidden away in a quiet wooded area, this picturesque stone and wood cottage is only 2 miles from Lake Lure Marina and Beach and 3 miles from Chimney Rock State Park.
The entry level of Stone Cottage, which is easily accessed from the parking area with no stairs, has a large 2-story great room with beautiful hardwood floors. Comfy leather sofas surround a unique natural stone fireplace inlaid with the hand-carved astrological signs of the family who built the home in 1968. The fireplace has a wood burning stove insert and there is a TV/VCR/DVD combo and CD player for entertainment.
Sliding glass doors lead to the back deck with a pretty view of the mountains and woods. The fully equipped kitchen and dining area are open to the great room for easy socializing. Also on the main floor are one bedroom with a king bed and a full bath with tub/shower combination. Upstairs is a second bedroom with a double bed and a half bath. |
Off the game room is a third bedroom furnished with a charming brass daybed with pull-out trundle and a second full bath.

Shopping and restaurants are also close by, but our favorite pastime is exploring the woods surrounding the cottage. Guarded by mature hardwoods, mountain laurel, rhododendron and dogwoods, its secluded location offers lots of privacy. Enjoy breakfast on the back deck with a lovely view of the mountains and drink in the peace and quiet of the surrounding woods with only deer and wild turkey for company. It’s rare to find a vacation home this secluded and private that is also within minutes of all local attractions.
The lower level has a large and comfortably furnished game room that is perfect for entertaining and socializing. A stacked stone fireplace provides a cozy ambience and there’s lots of entertainment for any rainy afternoons with the TV/VCR/DVD combo, CD player, board games and an 8-foot pool table. A pull-out sofa bed provides additional sleeping.
